I remember I was in the third grade when this news hit us. We were all excited and watched it on the TV. Man, that was hard. I lived in Vermont, so we had a regional hero in Christa MCauliffe. She was a teacher in New Hampshire that trained and got to go up and all of that.
We had the pencils and our elementary school commssioned an artist to paint the entranceway to commemorate her and the other fallen heroes of The Challenger.
Even though it can be hard, it's good to be reminded of things like this from time to time. Not only in memory of the brave individuals that gave their lives to achieve something more, but so that others in the future can make sure that it doesn't happen again.
I grew up in FL and I was 5 when this happened. I can still clearly remember almost the exact same view from a friend's back patio. Being so young I didn't quite get what was happening, but I remember thinking it looked like bunny ears. My 5 year old brain then related that thought to the only bunny I knew at the time, Buggs Bunny. Not trying for humor here, just relaying how I, as a child, processed what I was seeing.
This video really brought back those memories. Thanks for the heads up on this.
