Jim Lee is the best there is at what he does, which is being the one and only Jim Lee. His approach to comics is very specific, partiularly his 90's stuff and is a genre unto itself.
i've always preferred Jim Lee when he inks himself... like on the Punisher Nick Fury project that got shelfed over at marvel 20 years ago and will never see the light of day.
since he appears to be inking himself on this DMZ thing, my curiosity is defiantly peaked.
Jim Lee is basically the reason I started drawing comic book characters. The dude is awesome, and keeps learning, even from his own disciples. You can see heavy influence in his new stuff from Travis Charest, and he's also worked in some of J. Scott Campbell's style, as well as some of Marc Silvestri and Kieth Giffen. He's definitely the Neal Adams of this generation.
Jim's a hard cat to judge. By my eye, a guy with and MFA, I think certain aspects of his style have evolved immensely, others have devolved quite a bit. Improvements here and there, in the overall though, I think he is still is fashioned with a formulaic crutch. Not that that is bad, he's still got an interesting nice touch for what it is...
